Abstract

This quasi-experimental study with one-group pre and post-test design aimed to investigate effects of virtual reality learning on knowledge, course achievement, and perceived clinical decision-making skills of nursing students. Sample consisted of 49 third-year nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing, Buriram Rajabhat University, enrolled in the Adult Nursing 2 course in the 2025 academic year. Research instruments were 8 virtual reality simulations developed by the researcher, which passed the alpha & beta test and was programmed with advanced simulation mannequins to change according to the given scenarios. Data were collected using a knowledge test on the content learned through virtual reality, with a reliability of 0.70 using the Kuder-Richardson formula (KR-20) and a clinical decision-making skills assessment with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.94. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze basic data, and paired t-tests were used to compare means.

The results showed that the samples had significantly higher post-test knowledge scores than pre-test scores after learning with virtual reality, at the p=0.001. The achievement in Adult Nursing 2 course being taught using simulations had significantly higher average scores than the achievement in Adult Nursing 1 course being taught using other methods. Furthermore, the overall perception of clinical decision-making skills using simulations was at the highest level, with a mean score of 4.30 (SD=0.68).
