Abstract

During pregnancy, mothers will experience many anatomical and physiological changes to support the growth and development of a fetus. This makes the nutritional needs of a pregnant woman unique. Nutritional status during pregnancy plays an important role for both mother and the fetus. Conditions such as overnutrition or undernutrition during pregnancy can increase the risk of obesity, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and pediatric psychiatric disorders, which affects pregnancy and the fetus. The proper nutritional management in terms of energy, macronutrients, micronutrients, gestational weight gain and exercise, will result in decreased complications during pregnancy and support appropriate fetus birth weight.
