Abstract

Obesity is a chronic health problem associated with multiple complications requiring comprehensive management. Nevertheless, some individuals are unsuccessful in achieving weight loss through conventional obesity treatments, very low-calorie diet (VLCD) has emerged as a rapid weight loss strategy requiring multidisciplinary supervision to maximize benefits and minimize complications. The use of VLCD for weight management depends on the individual's medical conditions and readiness. Importantly, it is necessary to ensure adequate protein, vitamins, minerals, and fluids, as well as being ready to change their eating habits and lifestyle to achieve long-term weight loss success.

This article presents a multidisciplinary consensus statement providing recommendations for the safe and effective implementation of VLCDs within the Thai context, including indications, contraindications, dietary protocols, and supportive measures.
