Management of Hypoglycemia in Older Adults with Diabetes

Abstract
Hypoglycemia is the one of life-threatening problems among older adults with diabetes.The cause of hypoglycemia in older adults is not only tight glycemic control, but also due to many reasons such as; advancedaging process, liver and renal impairment, multiple comorbidities, and polypharmacy. Hypoglycemia episode in older adults may increase the risk of stroke, cardiovascular disease, cardiac arrhythmia, physical function decline, impaired cognitive function, and also increase risk of falls, disability, and mortality. Hypoglycemic episodes in older adults with diabetes were managed by implementing clinical nursing practice guidelines which consisted of three steps; assessment, management, and evaluation.
