Career Paths of Nurses under the Ministry of Public Health

Abstract

Career path of professional nurses is an essential knowledge for nurses to make the career plan in order to be success in their own career. This article presents: 1) Concept of career path in nursing career for nurses under the Ministry of Public Health, especially for nurses who are civil servants; 2) Model of the career path comprised of 3 types, traditional model, open or network model, and dual model, which each has both pro and con; 3) Usefulness of career path for civil servant could benefit for both nursing organization and for nurses themselves; and 4) Summary and suggestions. Contents present in this article are the essential knowledge for professional nurses who want to develop their own towards the career path. To be knowledgeable in career paths will help nurses making the right decision to develop the certain career plan of their own. This will lead to nurses’ satisfaction and retention in the public sector system successfully.
