Care Management of Elderly Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers who Have High Amputation Risk: A Case Study

Abstract
Foot ulcers are one of the important complications and commonly found in
older adults with diabetes. It caused by physiological changes according to the elderly
and having poor control of blood sugar level resulting in peripheral vascular and peripheral
nerve degeneration, numbness and decreased perception at foot. In addition, inappropriate
foot care behavior has also affected the risk likely of diabetes elderly patients to develop
foot ulcers easily. If the foot ulcer becomes infected, the amputation risk is high and can
lead to mortality. This article aimed to presents a case study of elderly patients who have a diabetic foot ulcer with a high risk for amputation by integration the performance of advanced practice nurse roles in the care management to assist the diabetes elderly patient adapt with disease and reduce foot amputation. This will further promote the quality of life among diabetes elderly patients.
