Abstract

Objective: This study is to compare the results of treatments of femoral neck fracture between before and after the used of Clinical Practice Guideline in Nakhonpathom Hospital.


Material and Method: Prospective study of 87 femoral neck fracture patients treated followed the according to Clinical Practice Guideline at Nakhonpathom Hospital from August 2010 to November 2011. The questionaire was sent to patients by telephone and the patients were appointed to examine at the hospital. The data were analyzed by chi-square test.


Result: 1. Mortality rate in 1 year of femoral neck fracture patients after treatment according to Clinical Practice Guideline was 14.9% (13 in 87 patients)  2. Mortality rate in 1 year of femoral neck fracture patients treated by hemiarthroplasty with Austin-Moore Prosthesis in Clinical Practice Guideline was 6.4% (3 in 50 patients) that significantly lower than the patients treated before the use of Clinical Practice Guideline (p < 0.05) 3. Functional outcome by Harris Hip Scores after follow the Clinical Practice Guideline were good and excellent in 79%.


Conclusions: The Clinical Practice Guideline of Nakhonpathom Hospital was useful to reduce mortality rate in 1 year of femoral neck fracture patients after hemiarthroplasty by Austin-Moore Prosthesis significantly.
