บทคัดย่อ

Objective : To study maternal and fetal comphcation in elective and emergency repeat cesarean section.

Designs : retrospective study.

Setting : Samutsakorn Hospital.

Subjects : A total of 140 women who had elective repeat cesarean section and 222 Women who had emergency repeat cesarean section from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2008.

Methods : Data were abstracted from medical record including history of antenatal care, intraoperative record and maternal and fetal complication. 

Results : The results from this study showed that lower maternal complication rate was found in women who had elective repeat cesarean section compared to those with emergency repeat cesarean section. The most common complication were infection, particularly urinary tract infection (3.57%, 6.76%), abdominal wound infection (0.71%, 2.25%) and postpartum endometritis (0%, 135%) Fetal complication was not significant in both  roups.

Conclusion : Maternal complication in elective repeat cesarean section was lower than emergency repeat cesarean section such as urinary tract infection, abdominal wound infection and postpartum endometritis.
