บทคัดย่อ

Objective: To evaluate PD catheter survival and risk factor associated with peritoneal dialysis catheter survival.
Method: A retrospective analytic study of CAPD at Nakhonpathom hospital during January 2008- December 2011 in 120 CAPD. The medical records, laboratory examinations and X-ray findings were reviewed.
Result : Random sampling was done in 286 to the studied group of 120, 61 (50.8%) were male and 59 (49.20%) were female. Mean age was 54.45 years. 72 patients have been diagnosed DM (6%), 110 HT (91.70%), 2 previous abdominal surgery (1.70%) and 6 hernia (5%). The mean of BMI was 24.13 kg/m2, serum-potassium 3.27 mEq/l and serum albumin 3.12 g/dl. PD catheter survival at 12, 24 and 36 month equaled 91.67%, 91.30% and 75.00% respectively. PD catheters were removed in 28 patients (23.30%), primary PD catheter failure in 19 patients and secondary PD catheter failure in 3 patients, Functional PD catheters were found in 6 patients (death). Peritonitis was the infectious complication that affected PD catheter survival (Hazard ratio 9.901; 95%CI 2.999-33.079). Infection of female at younger age had more chance of PD catheter removal. Tunnel infection also had the effect on PD catheter survival (Hazard ratio 18.338; 95% CI 1.856-181.240). Non-infectious complications, eg: kinking, extrusion, malposition also affected on PD catheter survival (Hazard ratio 5.977; 95% CI 2.559-13.957) and infection of patients who had age lesser than 50 years old, had more chance of catheter removal (Beta estimate -0.027) (Hazard ratio 0.973; 95% CI 0.950-0.997)
