Hypothermia was a common problem that occurred during pediatric anesthesia. To prevent this problem, Anesthetic division of Samutsakhon Hospital presented the "Modified Jackson-Rees Samutsakhon System" for warming anesthetic gas during general anesthesia.

Purpose : To study the efficacy of the Modified Jackson-Rees Samutsakhon System to prevent hypothermia in pediatric anesthesia

Materials and methods : The study was performed during January 2005 to December 2007 in 49 newborn-2 years old, body weight not exceed 15 kgs, who required general anesthesia at Samutsakhon Hospital and duration of anesthesia more than 1 hour wered included. The Modified Jackson-Rees Samut-sakhon System was used as anesthetic circuit and humidified warmer. Monitor body core temperature and end tidal CO2.

Results : All of the patients did not have hypothermia, hypercarbia or rebreathing CO2 during general anesthesia and no other complications.

Conclusion : The Modified Jackson-Rees Samutsakhon System can be used as anesthetic circuit for small child body weight not exceed 15 kgs. lt can prevent hypothermia effectively and safety.
