บทคัดย่อ

"Lai Tai" or Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome (SUDS) are cases of young persons, age more than 2 years, whose autopsies revealed no obvious cause of death. In 1995, 13 cases of Sudden Unexplained Deaths were sent to Bangbuathong Hospital to determine cause of the death. All of the cases were males, age range between 22-57 years, constructive laborers, 61.5% of them were from the northeast and 38.5% were from the north. Investigation revealed that all of victims were healthy before and died during their sleep. Four of them were refered to Department of Pathology, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University to perform autopsy. No definte pathological causes had been found in postmortem examinations. Bangbuatong Hospital cooperated with Bangbuathong District Health Office set up. A Project of Sudden Unexplained Death Syn-drome Surveillance in Laborers in Bangbuathong District and the Project on the Development of Laborer Quality of life to improve the knownledge, attitude and practice of the laborers for prevention of occupational disease and communicable disease and especially “Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome". After follow up from 1996-2007, there are no cases of Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome in Bangbuathong District.
