บทคัดย่อ

          External fixation proved to be a suitable technique for stabilizing open comminuted fracture phelanx. The cost of external fixator is very expensive, therefore a modification of inexpensive and easily performed external fixator is reported. A 65·year-old man who sustained a motorcycle accident with open comminuted fracture of middle phalanx of left ring finger. The patient was treated by debridement and modified external fixator with K-wires and disposable needle cover. After 14 weeks follow-up evaluation, the range of motion of  the PIP joint, the DIP joint and the MCP joint were 90°, 45° and 90° respectively. No serious complication was detected.
