บทคัดย่อ

Objective : To compare the use of general anesthesia and spinal anesthesia in regards to caesarean section of pregnant woman.

Material and Methods: this was a retrospective study from reports of pregnant women at Nakhonpathom Hospital from January 1, 2006 to July, 2006.

Results of Study : There were 914 pregnant women admitted to the hospital and undergo caesarean section. Of those 322 (35.25%) women, a general anesthesia was given and 592 (64.75%) women were given spinal anesthesia. Sixty live women (20.38%) received general anesthesia had preoperative complications and ninety four women (15.87%) received spinal anesthesia had preoperative complications. In general anesthesia group, it was seen that there was failed intubations in two women (0.62%) and one women (0.31%) experienced bronchospasm. There were 287 women (48.47%) who received spinal anesthesia and had complications of hypotension. There were no complications of those received general anesthesia.

Conclusion:  Anesthesia for pregnant women underwent caesarean section in Nakhonpathom Hospital were spinal anesthesia for the most part. This method has had its complications, that is hypotension. Whereas women who had general anesthesia did not have hypotension, but bronchospasm and failed intubations. The care and safety procedures of these pregnant women are of utmost important to ensure the wellbeing of them.
