บทคัดย่อ

There was an outbreak of four endophthalmitis patients post cataract surgery in Somdejphrasankaraj 17 Hospital between November - December 2007. Three patients had eye pain, visual disturbance. Another one patient had eye pain, visual disturbance and hypopyon. The median of incubation period was six days. Phacoemulsitication with intraocular lens implantation had the risk in postoperative endophthalmitis. The culture results from eye of one patient, liquid substances and materials related to patients were no growth. The cause of this outbreak was likely due to PE with IOL. The instruments of PE with IOL were tiny and luminal components. Those were the important source of microorganisms. The cleaning of the instruments of PE with IOL by enzymatic detergent was likely useful to eliminate the source of microorganisms. Universal precautions and sterile techniques were determined to prevent next outbreaks.
