บทคัดย่อ

          Retrospective study on incidence of Low Birth Weight at Health Promoting Hospital during February, 2002 to April, 2003. Risk Factors that relate to Low Birth Weight newborn and consequence of Low Birth weight were studied. 284 Cases of Low Birth Weight out of 2,993 Cases of newborn that is 9.49%. Maternal age 40 years and more had maximal relative risk 2.87 to Maternal age 25-35 years that had minimal risk (P < 0.001). Maternal height 150 cm and less had maximal relative risk 3.03 to Maternal height 160-170 cm that had minimal risk (P < 0.001). The 5th  and more pregnancy had maximal relative risk 3.50 to the 2nd -4th  pregnancy that had minimal risk (P<0.001). The 2nd – 4th pregnancy had minimal risk. The fourth factor is antipartum care, No ANC had relative risk 2.28 to ANC (P 0.033). Incomplete ANC (less than 4 times) had relative risk 2.94 to complete ANC (P <0.001). The complication of Low birth weight newborn, The first is hypoxia, Apgar score at 1 minute : Apgar score 0-3 had relative risk 14.04 to normal newborn (P<0.001). Apgar score at 5 minute: Apgar score 0-3 had relative risk 15.85 to normal newborn (P < 0.001). This study suggest that maternal age, maternal height, sequence of pregnancy, No ANC and not complete ANC are risk factors to Low birth weight. Hypoxia of newborn is consequence to low birth weight newborn.
