บทคัดย่อ

          Concerning clinical infection and other complications, incidental appendectomy at cesarean section is controversial. To find the puerperal febrile morbidity rate and other complications, incidental appendectomy at elective cesarean section was performed in 113 patients at Ratchaburi Hospital from January 2003 to February 2004. The control group consisted of 118 elective cesarean section patients during the same period of time. Except for maternal age, there was no statistically significant difference in puerperal febrile morbidity rate, bowel recovery, hospital stay and clinical characteristics between the two groups. The incidental appendectomy time was about 14 mineutes. There was no serious intraoperative and postoperative complication. About one - tenth of the removed appendices were pathologically abnormal. In conclusion, incidental appendectomv at elective cesarean section is a safe operation. lt can prevent future appendicitis and sequelae.
