A retrospective study was undertaken to review the response to the triple drugs therapy in HIV-infected patients attended the Out Patient Department, Samutsakhon Hospital between January 1999 and October 2002. Of the 15 patients, there were 12 (80%) men, sexual transmission were major cause of infection, Patients were stratified according to baseline CD4+ cell counts. Six patients in early symptomatic group, Six patients in late symptomatic group and 3 patients in advanced group.

Nine of 15 were treated with double nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors plus non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (2 NRTI + 1NNRTI). Others received double nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors plus protease inhibitors (2NRTI+ 1Pl).

Of the 15 patients, two had resistance to drug, one stopped treatment becaused of allergic to drug and 1 stopped treatment becaused of economic problem. The mean and maximum time of patients received drugs was 24.2 and 42 months respectively. The mean number of CD4+ cell counts in the third month was clearly higher than at the beginning of the treatment and was rapidly increase after taking drugs for more than 12 months. It might be necessary in elderly patients for taking drug at the early period.
