บทคัดย่อ

During 5 years period, cesarean section rates in Prachomklao Hospital Phetchaburi Province increased from 18.87 per 100 deliveries in 1995 to 35.58 in 1999. Most of the indications for cesarean section were previous cesarean section (26.19%), dystocia (24.23%), fetal distress (8.57%) and breech presentation (7.55%). Sixty-five percent of cesarean section cases were private cases and half of private cases were delivered by cesarean section. Perinatal mortality rate decreased from 15.31 per 1,000 births in 1995 to 13.93 in 1999, and was not clearly affected by these increasing cesarean section rates. In 1995, there was one maternal death due to postpartum hemorrhage. Maternal mortality rate was 38.62 per 100,000 live births.
