บทคัดย่อ

The study about using condom behavior to protect HIV of commercial sex workers. Data collecting from 110 commercial sex workers who were registered at the VD and Aids section, Nakorn Pathom Public Health Center and Nakornchaisri Hospital. The methodology used two types of approach. One was the Qualitative study based on intensive personal interviews and the other was quantitative study by analizing the statistical data. Both of the above methods were used and obtained the following results : 13.3% of commercial sex workers were HIV infected, 77.5% thought that they involved the risk of HIV infection, the population was well aware of the condom being the best prevention from AIDS. Moreover, there were economic and social factors that influenced the used of the condom. Both factors were proven detremental to commercial sex workers protecting themselves against HIV infection show by the following statistics, 29.1% had never used condoms with husband or couple, 1.8% had never used condoms because they were drunken and 1.8% didn’t  use condoms because they were offered extra money, 23.3% had oral sex and 1.3% had anal sex both with and without condoms. Consequently, the above factors increased HIV infection rate. The outcome of health dissemination are, however satisfactory as can be seen from our study that 96.3% continue to use condom everytime even when drunken or have been offered extra money. In addition, 98.1% use condom even when they have delivered the overnight service and have sexual intercourse more than one time. Besides 97.3% continue to use condom even when delivered the out of place service.
