บทคัดย่อ

A Thalassemia is the most common genetic disease in Thailand. Giving knowledge about thalassemia to general population, detection of thalassemia and thalassemia trait, genetic coun-selling and prenatal diagnosis will decrease incidence of thalassemia. The objective of this study was to search thalassemia and thalassemia trait in primary school student in Amphur Potharam. 2,949 randomized students were interviewed and physical examined to find suspected cases by using thalassemia screening model of Ministry of Public Health. The suspected cases were venepunctured for whole blood 4 mililitres. Then complete blood count, mean cell volume and mean cell hemoglobin concentration were done at Photharam hospital, hemoglobin typing was done at Ratchaburi Mother and Child hospital. From this study, we found 13 cases of thalassemia abnormal Hemoglobins. All of their parents live in central region of Thailand.
