บทคัดย่อ

A report of 2 cases of children who came to Samutsakorn hospital with the symptoms of weakness and respiratory arrest after Horseshoe Crab ingestion. Both of them recovered after being on respirator and symptomatic & supportive treatment for a few days. There are only 4 species of Horseshoe Crab today. Only 2 species were found in Thailand, T. gigas and C. rotundicauda. One that causes toxicity and death is C. rotundicauda. The toxin of Horseshoe Crab is neurotoxin. The symptoms of its toxicity are numbness of lips and extremities, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting. Fever, paralysis of muscles, respiratory distress and apnea. Only symptomatic treatments are needed for its toxicity, especially removing of poisons by gastric larvage, fluid supplement and respiratory support. There is no specific antidote.
