บทคัดย่อ

A serious complication of contact lens users is corneal ulcer. We had studied a total of 10 cases with 10 eyes of corneal ulcer caused by contact lens who came to seek management in Nakornprathom hospital between the period of December 1990 to November 1995. All of them were soft contact lens users with 70% were daily weared and 30% were extended weared lenses.

Bacterial culture study found that 40% were Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 10% were Klebsiella, 10% were Acinetobacter 20% were no growth and 20% not done. All of them were treated and well responded by combination of systemic and topical antibiotics, leaving various sizes of corneal scars. 20% of them, the corneal scars blurred the vision more or less but 80% still had good vision due to the corneal scars were not on the visual axises.

Precipitating factors of this serious complication were inproper contact lenses, the patients were not well informed or careless for keeping and using of the contact lenses.
