บทคัดย่อ

This descriptive study reviewed 4,474 cases of traffic accidents who received treatment at the emergency room of Cha—am hospital during January 1, 1994 - December 31, 1996. The result showed that the accident from motorcycles was 70.5% and other vehicles was 29.5%. Number of patients increase each year from 1,405 in 1994 to 1,555 cases in 1996. Death rate was 5.1%. Themost frequent time period that the accident occurred was 02.01 p.m. - 10.00 p.m. for 44.7%. The majority of cases were at the age range between 11—30 years old for 65.1%. The ratio of male to female patients was 2.4 to 1 and 95.5% of these patients did not use helmets. The most common parts of bodies affected were head, neck and face for 39.6%. Most of them had only abrasion wound (46.9%). The most common causes of accident were careless driving of motorcycles 53.7% and other  vehicles 45.4%. The result of this study indicated an increase in number of injured patients from 1994 to 1996. The causes of accident and injury were. careless driving, no compliance with traffic law, lack of helmet use and alcoholic drinking.
