บทคัดย่อ

The purpose of this study was to study the prevalence of nosocomial infection in Prachuabkhirikhan hospital. The study population were In-patients who admitted in Prachuabkhirikhan hospital on Dec. 3, 1996. Data was collected by Infection Control Ward Nurses. Nosocomial infection record forms which developed by Department of Epidemiology, Ministry of Pubic Health were used for data collection.

The results of study among 156 In-patients were found that 20 patients had nosocomial infection, with the prevalence of 12.82 percent. Thirty-four percent of the patients had community acquired infection. The prevalence rate of nosocomial infection was highest in intensive care unit (50%), followed by medicine and new born ward (32.36%, 22.22%, respectively). With regard to the site of infection, the highest prevalence was lower respiratory tract infection (55%). Followed by surgical wound infection, urinary tract infection and blood stream infection (15%, 5%, 5%, respectively). The most common causative agent were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (17.39%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (17.39%), followed by E. coli, Enterobacter aeroqenes and E. cloacae. Antibiotic therapy was given to 59.6 percent of the patient. One kind of antibiotic was in 26.92% of record, followed by 2, > 2 kinds(18.6%, 14.1%, respectively).
