การรักษาภาวะขาดน้ำด้วย โอ อาร์ เอส (O.R.S.) ในโรคอุจจาระร่วงเฉียบพลันในเด็ก

บทคัดย่อ

          A study of 212 cases of acute diarrhea in children age 1 month to 14 years admitted at Department of Pediatrics, Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital between May 1, 1993 to December 31, 1993. The objectives were to determine the effectiveness of O.R.S. in correction of dehydration and its complications ; to compare the cost of treatment between O.R.S. and IV fluid ; and to evaluate the experiences of parents in using O.R.T. in childhood diarrhea. 180 patients were treated with O.R.S. 96.67% were successfully treated with O.R.S. without any complications. only 6 patients (3.33%) were failed in which IV fluid were used for treatment. The average cost of O.R.S. treatment was 232.67 bahts while IV fluid was 354.33 bahts which was statistical significant different (P < 0.0001). 67.45% of 212 parents had experiences in using some kinds of oral fluid in childhood diarrhea, but O.R.S. were used only 50 cases (23.58%). In conclusion O.R.S. is effective, cheap and safe in correction of dehydration in childhood diarrhea.
