Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present what roles nurses have in handling emergency situations. According to the disaster relief, or disaster relief guideline framework, the Thai Nursing Council adheres to the basic structures of the International Council of Nurses consisting of prevention before a catastrophe occurs in order to alleviate suffering from patients and better understand how to reduce the impact during a crisis and how to cope after a tragedy has happened (ICN Framework of Disaster Nursing Competencies). This includes presenting experience in nursing practices and guidelines in memergency situations from conflicts in the case of unrest in the city of Bangkok.

Preparation for emergency situations from conflicts must be done in case of unrest in the city of Bangkok, where it is sometimes difficult to predict. In preparation for the future, nurses operating during the disaster must be cautiously reviewed and always be prepared for clarity within the role, as well as knowing the hospital operational procedures for safety. Therefore, it is important to have knowledge and understandthe correct nursing practices. Furthermore, this will help manage those situations in a safe and timely manner and effectively help reduce the losses of patients during catastrophic situations and also help to reduce the impact it may cause in the future.
