บทคัดย่อ

Older people are more vulnerable than others in a disaster. Due to health conditions and economic or social constraints, they may face difficulty in preparing for and responding to disasters  that may lead to injury or illness. Nurses are health professionals who play an important role in caring for the elderly.  They face the expanding challenge of an aging society and the potential occurrence of more serious natural disasters. Therefore, management of elderly care in the future must cover both normal situations and disasters. Moreover, the elderly, families of the elderly and communities should be encouraged to participate in disaster risk reduction. Most elderly people are still able to take care of themselves during a disaster if they are advised to prepared appropriately. At the same time, nurses, who play an important role in caring for the elderly in a disaster, need further traininig in disaster management to be able to provide nursing care that meets the health needs of the elderly, covering all phases of the disaster.
