บทบาทพยาบาลเพื่อส่งเสริมการดูแลสุขภาพช่องปากและฟันในผู้ป่วยเด็ก โรคหัวใจเพื่อป้องกันโรคติดเชื้อที่เยื่อบุหัวใจ

การติดเชื้อที่เยื่อบุหัวใจถือว่าเป็นภาวะแทรกซ้อนที่รุนแรงของผู้ป่วยโรคหัวใจ ซึ่งมีอัตราการตายสูงรวมถึงเสียค่าใช้จ่ายจำนวนมากในการรักษา สาเหตุหลักของการติดเชื้อที่เยื่อบุหัวใจในเด็กมักเกิดจากโรคฟันผุซึ่งเป็นสาเหตุที่ป้องกันได้ จากหลักฐานในปัจจุบันพบว่า วิธีการดูแลสุขภาพช่องปากที่ปลอดภัย ง่าย และมีประสิทธิภาพเพื่อป้องกันฟันผุ สามารถทำได้โดยการแปรงฟันอย่างถูกวิธี และแปรงด้วยยาสีฟันผสมฟลูออไรด์ ดังนั้นพยาบาลซึ่งถือว่าเป็นบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ที่ทำหน้าที่หลักในการดูแลผู้ป่วยร่วมกับแพทย์จึงมีบทบาทสำคัญยิ่งในการส่งเสริม การดูแลสุขภาพช่องปากและฟันในผู้ป่วยเด็กโรคหัวใจ และผู้ปกครอง โดยพยาบาลประเมินคัดกรองสุขภาพช่องปากและฟัน การให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับการดูแลช่องปากและฟันเพื่อป้องกันฟันผุ และการส่งต่อเพื่อรับการรักษาจากทันตแพทย์อย่างเหมาะสมเพื่อลดโอกาสที่เชื้อจะผ่านเข้าสู่กระแสเลือดทำให้เกิดการติดเชื้อที่เยื่อบุหัวใจ
