Keywords:
Acute Stroke, , Perception, hospital arrival timeAbstract
This correlational research aimed to explore hospital arrival time and its related factors among patients with acute stroke at the emergency department of ChianYai Hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The sample was 86 transporters and patients with acute stroke. Purpose sampling was applied. Data were collected from 1 September 2021 to 31 March 2022, using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and correlation was analyzed with Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.
The results showed that more than half of the patients (61.63%) had hospital arrival time within 180 minutes; the mean time for hospital arrival time after the onset of symptoms was 231.95 (S.D.= 280.70). Only perceived severity was negatively and significantly associated with the hospital arrival time of acute stroke patients (r= -0.253, p < 0.05). There was no significant correlation between other studied factors and the hospital arrival time.
The findings suggest that it is important to educate the general public and those at risk of stroke to be aware of, and watch out for, the emergency symptoms and severity of stroke that require immediate hospitalization so that patients receive prompt, timely treatment to reduce the severity of the disease and reduce disability.
