Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Pressure Sore Prevention Among Male Patient Surgical Ward, Lamphun Hospital

Abstract

Important major complication in bedridden is pressure sore that can be prevented. This research study aimed to develop clinical practice guideline pressure sore prevention among risk patients in Male surgical ward, Lamphun Hospital. The National Health and Medical Research Counsel (1998) translated by Chaweewan Thongchai (2005) was used as a conceptual framework. Development team included 1 doctor 5 nurses total 6 persons. Data was collected by 1) the possibility of using the practice guideline form, 2) the ability to follow the practice guideline form. Test for possibility to use the practice guideline was done as criteria indicated. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and proportion, and Chi Square test. The results of this research revealed that about 80% of the sample agreed that the practice guideline was easy at a high level. About 90% of the sample rated the clarity of recommendations in using the practice guideline, the possibility to use the practice guideline for pressure sore prevention, the effectiveness of practice guideline in their wards, and satisfaction in using the practice guideline at a high level. Implementation of the practice guideline among the patients selected as criteria indicated, at a high level. The proportion of pressure sore occurred after implementation of the practice guideline was 1.79 % compared to the pressure sore occurred before the implementation which was 16.66 %. The pressure sore incidence was statistically significantly difference between before and after the implementation of the practice guideline by Chi Square test (p<0.01). About 100% of the sample satisfied with the patient advocacy and ethics as well as the pressure sore care at a high level.
