CORE COMPETENCIES OF EMERGENCY ROOM-NURSES IN CHIANGKHAM HOSPITAL, PHAYAO PROVINCE

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current state of the competencies to create a strategy to improve and assess the strategic development of competencies in the Emergency roomnurses in Chiangkham Hospital, Phayao Province. The study was divided into 3 phases and the results were shown as followed. The first phase was to study the current state of the competencies of fifteen Emergency room-nurses. The study tools were questionnaires and a designed 5 rating scale’s assessment form of competencies in Accident and Emergency Department of Thailand. The data was analyzed by using the percentage, mean, and standard deviation. It was found that the current state of competencies had overall average score in a good level. In consideration of each aspect, 1) the decision making, problem analysis and solving, coordination and teamwork management were in a good level,2)the average score of leadership and technical knowledge were in excellent levels. The second phase was to create a strategic development of competencies in Emergency room-nurses by methods of brain storming and creating a strategic project from nine executive committees, expertises, and professionals. The results of this phase were three strategic development of competencies including 1) Technical strategic development for the decision making, 2) The strategy of problem analysis and management, 3) The strategic of development for sustainable of teamwork and organization. The last phase of this study was to evaluate an appropriate assessment of the strategy development of competencies in Emergency room-nurses by the same group of the expertises. A passable acceptance was found in this phase including the strategy development of care competencies in Emergency room – nurses that should be applied in practice for the benefit of the patients in Emergency room in the future.
