PREVALENCE AND FACTORS INFLUENCED TO ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION BEHAVIOR OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN LI DISTRICT LAMPHUN PROVINCE

Abstract

This descriptive study was conducted to examine the factor of personals, family and environmental influenced to alcohol consumption behavior of high school students. Data were collected from 356 high school students in Li district, Lamphun Province between January and February 2011.The questionnaire was confirmed by three experts for content validity and the content validity index was 0.87. Reliability was tested by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and the value was 0.82. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study revealed that, the prevalence rate of high school students with alcohol abuse was 20.22% and the factors, overall most of the high had self-confidence self-esteem, self-discipline. They had negative for their family and whom drunk alcoholic, only agreed with beliefs to a high degree and were aware of danger of alcohol to a high degree. As for family factors, overall, the high had perceived that they had good relationships with their parents and sibling and the felt that parents had good control over their alcohol abuse. Their father and mother drank alcohol. Most drank always on holiday or festival. As for environmental factors, overall, the high school students had their friend drank and invited them to alcohol abuse and access to places where alcohol beverage are sold. But the media don’t influence to alcohol abuse behavior in high school students.
