Factors related to health promoting behaviors of aging workers (45-60 years) in Lumphun Province

Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine relationship between demographic factors, perceived health status, working factors, predisposing factors, enabling factors, reinforcing factors with health promoting behaviors. Data were collected by using questionnaire and focus group with aging workers (45-60 years old, n=221) working in large, medium, and small-sized industry in Lampoon province. Subjects were selected by using multi-stage random sampling. Data were analyzed by using statistical software package. Statistics used were frequency, percentage, Chi-squares, and Pearson’s product correlation, Result showed that aging workers mostly had knowledge and attitudes toward health promotion at good level (93.7% and 84.5% respectively). Most of the subjects indicated that their establishments had health promotion policy implemented (98.9%). About 47.9% reported that accessibility to health promotion facilities was high. Support from supervisors was at moderate level (40.9%), while support from public health personnel (41.7) Receiving health information from media was at moderate level (49.7%). Aging workers had overall health promoting behaviors at moderate level (85.5%) reported overall health promoting behaviors at low level. Knowledge and attitude toward health promotion, support from supervisors, co-workers, health personnel, family members, and receiving health information from media were significantly related to health promoting behaviors at low level (r=0.026, 0.150, 0.388, 0.482, 0.403, 0.414 and 0.430, respectively).
