Abstract

Iodinated contrast media can cause adverse reactions to patients. The Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University collected data from adverse reaction case report forms during 2009 in order to report the incidence and severity of these adverse reactions and also to study the characteristics of these patients. In this retrospective study, there were 39 cases of adverse reactions from a total of 11,862 injections resulting in an incidence of 0.33%. The study revealed that there were significant differences in incidence of adverse reaction between ionic and non ionic contrast media, 1.29% and 0.28% respectively. The majority had mild reactions followed by moderate and severe reaction. Conclusion: The type of contrast media effect the incidence of adverse reaction and the majority were mild reactions.
