Alcohol drinking behaviors and perception of liquor laws among community leaders in Songkwae district Nan province

Abstract

           The objective of this cross-sectional descriptive study was to describe alcohol drinking behaviors and perception of liquor law among community leaders in Songkwae district Nan province. Research instrument was interview form including alcohol drinking behaviors and perception liquor law. Subjects were 106 community leaders. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. The study reveals that almost community leaders were male, aged 41-50 years. Almost of them were assistant of village head and were graduated high school level, 84% of village leaders and district leaders drink alcohol, average 2-4 times per month. Almost of them drink community distilled liquor, 31% aged at first drinking were 20 years and 52.6% were persuaded by their friends. Almost of them drink with their friends in the parties, provide alcohol from producer in their community. The impact of alcoholic drinking found 24.5% accident injuries, 62.3% were warn by doctors, theirs friends and families and 72.6% abstained from alcohol for the Buddhist Lent period. The perception of liquor laws, almost community leaders perceive the law that do not sell and drink alcohol in the place which do not allow. According to the result of this study stakeholders should be encouraged the programs for behaviors modification of alcohol drinking behaviors among community leaders.
