Inguinal hernia is common surgical problem and can be successfully preformed using general, regional or local anesthesia. This retrospective comparative study objected to compare outcome of the local anesthesia with conventional spinal and general anesthesia for inguinal herniorrhaphy in Lamphun hospital. One hundred fifty nine men who had inguinal hernia repaired during January 2006 to December 2008 divided into two groups. Groups 1 of patients were operated by local anesthesia eighty patients. Group 2 of patients were operated by spinal or general anesthesia seventy nine patients. Both groups were preformed by same surgeon. There was no statistically significant difference in average operative time between two groups. While average length of stay and average cost in spinal or general anesthesia were significantly higher than spinal anesthesia group. Complication after surgery of spinal anesthesia group was lower than the other group. The conclusion that inguinal hernia repaired can be preformed by local anesthesia safely, conveniencely and lower cost.
