The treatment of intertrochanteric fracture is both surgical and non surgical methods. The surgical method risk to sever blood loss, infection and hight mortarlity rate. But surgical method application allows the elderly fast clinical recovery in mobilization and walking is possible. The researcher studied to evaluate the results of intertrochanteric fracture in elderly by hemiarthroplasty. Objective: The aim of the work study to evaluate the results of intertrochanteric fracture in elderly by hemiarthroplasty. Material and method: A retrospective study was conducted on elderly patients who hemiarthroplasty (10 Austin – moore) in Fang Hospital between January 2009 to January 2010. Clinical out come was assessed by Harris hip score (HHS). Results: There were 7 men and 3 women with the mean age of 72.5years. (range 65 – 80). All patients were surviving and were follow up. The follow up period was 12 months. The mean HHS was 87 (range 70 – 98). Excellent result was found in 50%, good 20%, fair 30% and poor in 0% of the patients. The mean operative time was 87.5 min (range 70 – 105 min). The mean intraoperative blood loss was300 ml (range 100 – 500 ml) and the mean time can to walking was 3 days (range 2 – 4 days) no infected wound, implant failure. Conclusion: The clinical result of using hemiarthroplasty in eldely patients with intertrochanteric fracture could be a good alternative treatment option.
