Child Death of Children under 15 year old from Drowning in Nan Province

Abstract

          A Child Death Review of children (CDR) under 15 years old, having drowning as the leading cause of dead in Nan province was performed to reveal the weak points in 3 issues: Child Behavior, Child Care System, and Environments/Equipments. These 3 issues have been signed  as the root causes of death from external cause include drowning in children. During April-August 2008, 4 cases were investigated using Nan Child Death Review Form as a tool to interview the persons, accompanying the event include parents and caregiver, also to explore the place the accident’s taken place. All the cases in this study had played alone or with their friends without their parents or caregiver nearby, showing the weak point in Child Care System issue.  This study’s also founded other weak point in other issues such s high risk places, without warning sign, and some high risk playing character that increase the risk. Concern and response to the events from the community and public sectors is relevant.  The results from this CDR should have been used to prevent loss and risk of the events.
