The prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome was calculated and significant health factors related to Metabolic Syndrome were tested by using 2-sided Chi-square and logistic regression analysis. The results showed that the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in this study was 24.6๔ (95% CI 19.2-30.8), 19.7% among men and 26.9% among women Health factors that were significantly related to Metabolic Syndrome were age and Body Mass Index (BMI). Patients over 60 years of age had a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome were compared to those under 60. Patients who were obese (BMI>25 kg/m2) were 3.2 time more likely to have metabolic syndrome when compared to those who were not obese. In conclusion, the authors found that nearly one-fourth of our study population had Metabolic Syndrome. Since patients with Metabolic Syndrome have a high risk of developing atherosclerotic diseases and diabetes, physicians should be responsible for the early detection and screening of this condition especially in high risk groups such as the elderly and obese, so that advice and proper treatment plan can be initiated to minimize the future problems.
