During the 1st July 2006 to the 30th June 2007, there were 40 HIV-infected children who participated in the study. The prevalence of otitis media among these children was 10%. All of them had a chronic infection. The mean age of these children was 9.5 ears. The associated factors for otitis media were a previous history of otitis media and passive smoking. The commonly found organisms were Pseudomonas aeroginosa, and Staphylococcus spp. Half of the children have been treated with local ear drop and antibiotics. In conclusion, health care workers should be aware of such conditions among HIV-infected children and provide prompt treatment to help preventing further complications.
