Early Breast Feeding in Cesarean Woman, Received Diclofenac for relieved compared with Morphine

Abstract

             Objective: To compare early breast feeding in cesarean women, received diclofenac for relieved pain compared with Morphine Study design: A double blind randomized controlled trial Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Lamphun Hospital, Lamphun Subjects: Two hundred patients who underwent post operative Caesarean section in Lamphun Hospital from December 1st 2004 to June 15th 2006. Intervention: The subjects were randomized by allocation to receive diclofenac 75 mgs Intramuscular (n=81) or morphine 10 mgs intramuscular (n=74) and 45 cases were excluded. The time of successful sucking were recorded. Groups were compared statistically by exact probability tests and chi square tests. Main outcome measure: The time when breast feeding was initiated, The time of Milk letting down, The time of successful sucking and good milk letting down. Results: The time initiated breast feeding (p=0.872), The time Milk letting down (=0.186). The time of successful sucking and good milk letting down (p=0.451) not significantly different between the group of post cesarean women. Conclusion: The time initiated breast feeding, The time Milk letting down, The time of successful sucking and good milk letting sown were not significantly different.
