The Evaluation of Avian Influenza Control Preparedness in Hospitals in Lamphun Province, 2005

The objective of this study was to evaluate Avian Influenza Control Preparedness in hospitals in Lamphun province. Data was collected from 7 hospitals by questionnaire during 10-14 May 2005. The results revealed that hospitals which have committee, health care worker, documented practice guidelines, trained and preparedness plan, referral system and health education were 100, 85.71, 100, 100, 85.71 and 100%, 85.71% and 100% have out patient screening and mask wearing advisory for suspected Avian influenza. Health care workers wore N 95 masks 100%, but only 71.43% were used and fit tested correctly. They have separated IPD cases 100%. Health care workers wore N 95 mask and fit test correctly 100%. And health care workers got influenza vaccine 95.15%. IPD staff were daily record 71.43%. In addition 14.27% of laboratory units had BIOLOGICAL SAFETY CABINETS. And they used Rapid test kit for flu A (Directigen) for Avian Influenza 100%. They also reported about drug /PPE 71.43%. Health care workers had received information fro the Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Agriculture, Lamphun Provincial Health Office and Office of Disease Prevention and Control 10:100, 71.43, 100 and 100%. Management of infection control system, laboratory facilities and Avian influenza preparedness plan rehearsal should be strengthened.
