Posterior Lumbar lnterbody Fusion for Degenerative Lumbar Spondylolisthesis in Lampang Hospital

Objective to study the results of posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) for degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis in Lampang Hospital. Setting: Department of Orthopedics, Lampang Hospital, Lampang. Design: Descriptive retrospective study. Subjects: 8 patients who were diagnosed degenerative lumbar spoondylolisthesis grade 1-2 and had laminectomy, poster lateral fusion (PLF), transpedicular screw fixation and posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) by cage and local autogenously bone graft during July, 2000 to March, 2001. Post- operative follow up ranged from 4 to 36 months. Method: The information were retrieved from OPD cards and film X-rays. Results: All 8 patients had clinical improved and good bony union. One had Dural tear which completely repaired during that operation. Conclusion: Adding PLIF to transpedicular screw fixation and PLF after decompression in degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis yielded good results both clinically and bony union in all cases. Nevertheless, the PLIF is technically a much more demanding operation than PLF alone, so it should be done by experienced surgeon.
