Effects of the Empowerment and Goal attainment Programs on Blood Sugar levels among Complex Diabetic Patients, Ban Hong Hospital, Lamphun Province

Complex diabetes has been difficult to manage and often disrupted everyday life. A quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest design aimed to evaluate an applied program of empowerment and goal attainment for blood sugar among complex diabetic patients in Ban Hong Hospital, Lamphun Province. Random sampled 210 participants were selected and assigned into 105 in each group equally. The study carried out from November 2011 to April 2022. The instruments consisted of 1) the Empowerment and Goal attainment programs 2) a goal record form and decided activities 3) blood lipid vinyl 4) personal data record and blood glucose record forms. Analyses of the data referred to descriptive statistics, paired t-test and Independent t-test to compare outcomes between the groups. The results showed comparisons of complex diabetic patients between the groups before and after receiving the program that the experimental group had lower blood sugar levels (FBS) than that of the beginning and, similarly, significantly lower than the level in the control group (p<0.05). Learning from this experience, health teams can modify lifestyle to empower and manage for complex diabetic care to be sufficient to control the blood sugar levels for patients’ quality of life in the future.
