Effects of Nursing Case Management Model with Ask Me 3 and Teach-Back Techniques on Clinical Outcomes among Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients

A quasi-experimental study with two-group pretest-posttest design aimed to study effects of nursing case management model with “Ask Me 3 and Teach-back Techniques” among uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Sixty participants were divided into two groups of 30 experimental and 30 control patients. The experimental group received nursing case management model with that techniques, whereas the control group received a routine care. Instruments were the nursing case management model with “Ask Me 3 and Teach-back Techniques”, demographics questionnaire, and clinical outcomes intake form, including HbA1C, waist circumference, and BMI. Analyses of data were to define means, percentages, standard deviations using Wilcoxon signed-ranks test and Mann-Whitney U test. Results showed that the experimental group had better distinction of HbA1C level, waist circumference, and BMI compared to before beginning and either with those of the control group, whereas BMI had no significant difference between the two groups. Nursing case management model with “Ask Me 3 and Teach-back Techniques” became effectiveness in improving glycemic control and waist circumference in type 2 uncontrollable DM.
