Employment preparation for students in Dental Public Health program, Sirindhorn College of Public Health Khon Kaen Province

The research aimed 1) to study the preparation for Dental Public Health programme, 2) to understandthe readiness of the apprentices to start learning before working and 3) to understand theproblems and resolutions to promote and develop student in academy scheme.The samples were 46 students from fourth year in Dental Public Health program in Sirindhorn College of Public Health KhonKaen Province.Data were collected by questionnaires for gaining quantitative data. Descriptive statistics were used to illustrate participants’ general information, while Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was employed to analyze the relation between the employment preparation for students and age/grade point average (GPA) and Chi-square test was employed to analyze the relation between the employment preparation for students and gender.
The study showed that, most of samples (80.4%) were female and the average age was 22 years old (SD=1.1, Min=21, Max 28). The average GPA was 3.20 (SD=0.29, Min=2.5, Max 3.78). Most of samples (93.5%) regularly participate in the classrooms. have their life goal as a good well-beings(82.6%), as well as have their working goal as a workplace stability (80.4%). In the most ranging of 5 expectations from working of samples; the first ranging expectation from working were opportunistic of work promotion with reasonable and stable income (19.6%), the second ranging expectation was nice colleagues (23.9%), the third ranging expectation was nice and impartial directors (17.4%), the fourth ranging expectation were nice colleagues and nice and impartial directors (17.4%) and the fifth ranging expectation was reasonable and stable income (17.4%). For the overall level of the employment preparedness was high as 34 of the samples (73.9%) was in high-level, the other 12 samples (26.1%) were in the moderate-level. When considering each aspect, it’s found that the specific knowledge was high. The career action with the future career development was moderate. The personality that affects the social, emotion and physical health was in the high-level. However,the factors attributed to the employment preparation for students found that age, GPA, and gender have no relationship to the employment preparation for students(p-value> 0.05).
The problems caused from the college are deficiency of informing the students about their work in the future (66.7%), and deficiency of some services such as library, internet, data base etc. (41.7%) To increase the preparation of employment in the future, the samples pointed out that the college should have some improvements that are giving more experiences, more practices, and pre-graduation tuition.
For the problems caused from the students themselves, the samples suggested that they lack of motivation (54.2%). Also, the students are lack of financial opportunistic, which related to lacking the ability to reach the information such as the information for job searching or further education (41.7%).
