The relationship between the beliefes in dental health and usage of dental health services of elderly people residing in Baan Sila, Moo 1, Sila Subdistrict, Mueng District, KhonKaen

The descriptive research aimed to explore the relationship between beliefs in dental health and usage of dental health services of the elderly in Baan Sila, Moo 1, Sila Subdistrict, Mueng District, Khon Kaen. The samples were 112 elderly aged between 60-74 years old, with an average age of 70.93 years old. The majority of the samples were females (68.8%). The elderly dId not use dentures accounted for 72.3%.
Regarding the usage of dental health services, 53.6% last used dental health services more than a year ago. About 82.1% went to receive dental health services when in need. Almost 60% of the elderly were able to have dental health services without any assistance.
The beliefs in dental health included perception of oral infections, the importance of oral health, the benefits of disease prevention, belief in quality of dentist, fears regarding receive of dental health services,and confidence in one’s ability to receive dental health services. The result revealed that the beliefs in dental health did not significantly relate to the usage of dental health services.
