The associations between public health professional competencies of public health technical officers, practitioner level and the satisfaction of public health performance standards in Thai primary care units, Ubon Ratchathani

Public health technical officers, practitioner level with insufficient work skills may affect a satisfaction of public health performance standards. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the associations between competencies of public health technical officer and the satisfaction of public health performance standards in the Thai primary care unit. The study was conducted with 73 samples who worked at least one year in Ubon Ratchathani province. Data were collected by self-rated questionnaire from April to May 2018. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient test was 0.79. Descriptive statistics and Fisher’s Exact Test were used for data analysis.
About 52.1 percent were female with the average age 31.30 years (S.D.=5.0). Participants received salary approximately 20,823.20 baht per month (S.D.=4,432.90). Twenty-two percent of participants completed master degree approximately.
In relation to a hidden competency the result showed that 98.6 percent of participants worked with honesty. Ninety-seven percent correctly worked according to the discipline in civil services and 94.5 percent were more concerning in public health services than a private job. A visible competency demonstrated that 97.3 percent of participants worked following the rule of the Council of Community Public Health. The participants agreed that a public health organization has clearly identified the role of public health technical professionals (90.4 percent). The results showed that public health skills among participants were associated with the satisfaction of public health performance standards (p-value<0.05). Therefore, participants are suggested to develop their health skills to raise the satisfaction of public health performance standards and to collaborate public health works with multidisciplinary organizations effectively.
