Abstract

This research was a cross-sectional descriptive study and aimed to study the relationship of oral health literacy and oral health care behaviors of grade six students in Phanom Phrai District, Roi Et Province. The sample consisted of 175 students and divided by health service areas in 16 service areas using stratified random and simple random sampling. Data were collected using the questionnaire, the reliability coefficient=0.95. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square test.

The results show that the mean age of the students was 11.6 ± 0.5. The majority of them were male, 54.3%, lived with grandparents, 45.1%, had not underlying disease, 94.8%, had oral health literacy at low level, 58.3%, had oral health care behavior at median level, 76.0%. The relationship between oral health literacy and oral health care behaviors was statistically significant at the 0.05 level (p-value=0.001).

As the results, it can be seen that oral health literacy is correlated with the oral health care behavior level so students should be encouraged to be well-versed in oral health literacy at high level in order to affect oral health care behavior in the future.
