Potential Development of Dental Health Self-care in Primary school students: Hinngomwittaya school, Hinngom sub district, Muang district, Nongkhai Province

Abstract

          In a research study on “the potential development of dental health self-care for Primary school students. Hinngomwittaya School, Hinngom sub district. Muang district, Nongkhai Province through the action research. The sample are voluntary target group study from 43 student representatives and 21 representatives are from student parents, community heads and related government officers. Accuracy of research tool (validity) comes from 3 specialists. Reliability of the test statistic value at 0.97 on knowledge dental health self-care used Kuder-Richardson method. Attitude and Oral care practice are using cronbach’s coefficient alpha method with 0.89 and 0.88 respectively, Data Analysis with SPSS, Descriptive statistics and research data presentation methods, percentage, mean, median, standard deviation, range and inferential statistics Paired t-test use for knowledge and practice ,Wilcoxon matched pair sign rank use for attitude and content analysis. at statistical significant value at 0.05 and use qualitative data analysis method.

          The research study have found Pre-development of dental health self-care for Primary school students research study had found that majority of the student have average knowledge at score of 14.51 whereas post development shown average knowledge statistically significant improved to 19.02 scores (p-value <0.001 at 95%CI=3.81 to 5.22). As for the pre-study on attitude found student with moderate value at 30 while post development had found moderate value found statistically significant increase to 37 (Z=5.313, 

p-value <0.001). The study also found pre-development on oral care practice with average score at 27.63 whilst the post development reported statistically significant improved to 38.12 (t= 17.74,p-value <0.001at 95%CI=8.95 to 12.05) The Plaque examination on teeth staining method found before development found majority student with moderate dental plaque (dental plaque average score= 2.60) whereas after development found majority student with marginal dental plaque (dental plaque average score =1.13). The meeting for A-I-C Technique Participatory Planning process resulting in 5 projects as under;1) Dental Health media project, 2) Meet the dentist project, 3) Dental health self-care training for student project, 4) Healthy teeth ( Fun-Dee) partner contest project, 5) Dental Health self-care for student project which have been implementing continuously. From the results showed that communities emphasized an importance of students’s dental health. They supported budget and stimulated students for caring their dental health at home.whereas the community can see the benefit of the same for their children which therefore can leads to community problem resolving.
